In Bimini, colorful coral reefs, sheer walls, shallow wrecks and caverns produce a variety of dive types including night dives, drift dives, easy reef dives and tec dives.
Of course, this part of the Bahamas is most famous for its shark dives. Beginners will feel comfortable at many of the protected reefs, but the Gulf Stream, which travels past Bimini, can create fast-paced drifts more suitable to advanced divers.
While it is possible to access a number of the reefs from shore, the majority of diving takes place from small speedboats.
The Bahamas enjoys a hot and sunny climate year-round.
November to May is the dry season in the Bahamas. Water temperatures during the summer months are approximately 88°F (31°C). During these summer months, you can expect sunny, hot and mildly humid conditions.
In addition to great topside conditions, November to May is also the best time for shark diving. You will find hammerhead sharks at Bimini from December to March. Bull sharks can be found during the same months.
There are two airports in Bimini. These are the South Bimini Airport and the North Bimini Seaplane Base. Both airports have scheduled flights from Ft. Lauderdale and Miami in Florida.
If you own a private boat, it’s also possible to sail from Florida to Bimini in less than three hours. Once on Bimini, you can use boat taxis, ferries, bicycles and golf carts to travel around the islands.
