Shaped by volcanic origins, diving in Lanzarote delivers a wide variety of underwater landscapes, with each area offering distinct depths, marine life, and scenery. From lava reefs and caves to sandy seabeds and dramatic drop-offs, the island caters to divers of all experience levels.
The island is divided into four main Lanzarote diving areas. In the north, the Chinijo Archipelago and La Graciosa feature pristine waters, schools of fish, and occasional pelagic encounters. The north-east coast, including Arrecife, Costa Teguise, and Mala, is known for easy shore dives, volcanic formations, and consistent conditions. Along the south-east, Puerto del Carmen offers sheltered sites ideal for training and relaxed dives. The south, around Playa Blanca, combines marine reserves with deeper sites where angel sharks, rays, and groupers are frequently seen.
Year-round conditions, excellent visibility, and diverse sites make scuba diving in Lanzarote one of the Canary Islands’ most versatile underwater destinations.
Thanks to its subtropical climate, the best time to dive in Lanzarote spans the entire year. Water temperatures range from 18–24°C, with summer and early autumn providing warmer seas and calmer conditions. Winter months bring slightly cooler water but often improved visibility and fewer crowds. Angel sharks are most commonly seen from November to April, making this period popular for wildlife encounters. Consistent conditions make scuba diving in Lanzarote reliable regardless of season.
Accessing Lanzarote dive sites is simple and efficient. International flights arrive directly at César Manrique–Lanzarote Airport from major European cities, while connections via mainland Spain are frequent. Dive centres are concentrated around Playa Blanca, Puerto del Carmen, and Costa Teguise, all reachable by short car transfers. Renting a car offers easy access to shore dives and marine reserves, while boat trips cover offshore sites. Well-developed infrastructure makes diving in Lanzarote smooth and stress-free.
